Stage 22: San Martín del Camino - Astorga

San Martín, with a population of just over 400 inhabitants, is a great stopping place for pilgrims.

The village dates back to the early 12th century and has almost all the necessary services for pilgrims, including many stores where you can buy food for later.

The first part of this stage follows the N120 until Puente de Órbigo. From here, the route moves away from the road until a few kilometers before the final route.

This day is easy walking, with no steep ascents or descents, until the short and steep ascent to Astorga.

From here our path turns right at the end of the village and heads through the countryside passing Villares de Orbigo and Santibanez.

The route will now ascend easily to the Cruz de Santo Toribio, from where you will have good views over the valley to Astorga. The valley floor is incredibly flat. You will then cross the train tracks and walk the steep climb up to the walled city of Astorga.
